Its been just over a year since my wife, daughter and I moved to China, and that my wife and I became teachers at Tianwen International School. Coming from South Africa, it was quite a daunting prospect to move so far from home and we weren’t quite sure of what to expect, apart from knowing that whatever happened it would definitely be an adventure!

And time has not disappointed!

From the very first minutes of landing in Yichang and being met at the airport by the smiling faces of two of my soon-to-be colleagues, to now looking back on the past year with its trials and tribulations, it has been a wild ride.

We discovered an amazing China filled with incredibly beautiful cities and landscapes, and an incredibly friendly and helpful people who time and again put up with the cultural differences between us, and also put up with us trying to use online translators in our conversations with them (and probably not making that much sense half of the time).

Tianwen School was also an amazing surprise. We could not help but be impressed with the incredible dedication of both staff and pupils, and the enormous effort that we saw being put into every single day. The long hours and difficult and challenging work were met every day by rugged determination and a burning desire to succeed, and seeing this is an experience that I will never forget.

The school boasts of a great world-class curriculum, that blends academic subjects with equally important life-skills, that over the course of the three years of high school develops the students into confident and capable young adults, armed and ready to face the uncertain futures that each of us can remember from our own high school graduations as we took our own first steps to adulthood.

We wish our students all the best for their futures and hope that each one will find the spark of greatness that burns inside of them.

自从我和妻子、女儿移居中国以来，已经一年多了，我和妻子成为了天问国际学校的老师。来自南非，离开家很远，这是一个令人生畏的前景，除了知道发生的任何事情绝对是一次冒险之外，我们不确定要期待什么！

时间没有让我们失望！

从宜昌降落的第一分钟到在机场看到两位未来同事的灿烂笑脸，回首过去一年的考验和磨难，这真是一个疯狂的旅程。

我们发现了一个令人惊叹的中国，这里充满了令人难以置信的美丽城市和风景，还有令人难以置信的友好和乐于助人的人，他们一再忍受我们之间的文化差异，并且还忍受我们试图在与他们的对话中使用在线翻译（并且可能有一半的时间没有意义）。

天问学校也是一个令人惊讶的惊喜。全体员工和学生的惊人奉献精神以及每天所付出的巨大努力给我们留下了深刻的印象。艰苦的决心和对成功的迫切渴望，每天都经过漫长的时间和艰巨的工作，看到这种经历我将永远不会忘记。

这所学校拥有世界一流课程，融合了学术课程和同样重要的生活技能，在国高的三年中，这些课程将学生武装起来，成长为自信而有能力的年轻人，在迈向成年阶段的第一步时，做好了面对未来不确定性的准备。

我希望我的学生未来一切顺利，每个人都能找到在自己内心燃烧的伟大火花。
